FMBA LOCAL 25 / IAFF L-4525

Welcome to the Maplewood Professional Firefighters Association website. Thank you for your patience while the site is under construction.

Maplewood Professional Firefighters Association (FMBA Local 25/IAFF L-4525) is a labor union organization comprising the 43 career firefighters of the Maplewood, New Jersey, Fire Department. In addition to providing for the welfare and well-being of active and retired firefighters, the Association strives to educate and provide a greater awareness to Maplewood residents and business owners in the areas of emergency services, encourage a greater understanding of firefighting and fire safety and instruct and educate the youth of Maplewood in fire safety, awareness and prevention.

Maplewood’s firefighters responded to nearly 3,600 requests for assistance in 2007. Members train daily in the latest techniques and advances of firefighting, counter-terrorism and emergency first aid to be prepared to respond to any emergency 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

The Maplewood Fire Department is presently understaffed by all professional fire service standards, leading to inadequate manpower and lack of supervision on the Ladder Truck. In 1990, the four  Lieutenant positions were eliminated and in 2007 two firefighter positions were vacated and the positions were not filled. At a township budget hearing on February 9, 2008, the Citizen's Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC) recommended to the Township Committee that the supervisory positions be restored and the firefighter positions be filled. Please take a few moments to view the staffing presentation we have prepared addressing this issue and contact the Township Committee and ask them to restore these positions as recommended by the CBAC. Thank you.
